a) Did you find joy in your life ? If Yes
b) Did your actions give joy to the ones around you ?
Thats in nutshell summarizes everything - the mantra of life. Things which we think matters to us are no longer important and which seems irrelevant suddenly are very important..
These two questions are very powerful.. think about it..
So I started my new assignment post MBA
All geared up.. I get a call from my manager that my first project is out of Victoria - little known paradise in this part of the world..I am totally excited. They say consulting is about traveling so here I am all set to travel for my consulting assignment. Flight to Victoria from Vancouver is 35 min harbor to harbor in one of those float planes I had watched till this time only from the window on 24th floor of my summer internship firm. I make the reservations both for travel and hotel, pack my bags and hop on the next cab from my home with dreams of making it big in consulting.
Once I get out of the cab, I see one of those float planes land in water making big waves while landing.. I am totally excited. I rush to check in counter, get my photo Id keep my luggage on scale and take the boarding pass. I realize the pass is reusable and the only identification on the pass is the color of the pass. Announcement is made and I pick my bag, all smiles to be on my first float plane. I guess everybody in the room can sense that I am on my first float plane trip. I pace myself to get the window seat without realizing that out of 10 passengers 6 get window seat.. so the plane starts making big splashes and noise which is almost unbearable..but then what happens is what I was waiting for..
plane slowly rises over water and rises over the buildings/bridges / ships / tankers etc .. I see what I had always dreamt of ... aerial view of Vancouver.. now I know from where those amazing shots of Vancouver downtown were taken.. it is an amazing view.. one has to be part of it to experience it.. good stuff..
same is repeated in victoria.. aerial trip of bunch of islands ..as if those are diamonds nicely placed in a flat blue carpet to showcase those diamonds.. plane lands and I am off the plane.. I am excited.. looking forward to the next float plane ride.. I get in the cab to join the team..
Now having done this for seven weeks (both ways) over past couple of months, I still have the same excitement every time I board the plane.. let the kid in me have the same feeling as if it is the first ride to Victoria....
